The Heel and Toe is a lively traditional folk dance celebrated throughout Caribbean cultural festivities and Tobago heritage events. Characterized by rhythmic footwork and energetic movement, the dance symbolizes joy, togetherness, and the rich preservation of community traditions passed down through generations.
The dance gets its name from the repeated movement of placing the heel forward followed by the toe movement, usually done in rhythm with drums, fiddle, or tambrin music. Dancers often move in lines, circles, often times as pairs while swinging their arms and hips to the beat.
In traditional Tobago weddings, dances like Heel and Toe helped bring villagers together after ceremonies with singing, joking, and socializing.
